Article summary

IAS Segments

Maximize brand safety controls and spend efficiency by leveraging Integral Ad Science (IAS) pre-bid segments. When enabled, these segments allow you to define your risk tolerance for various brand safety and fraud categories. Additionally, you can prevent your ads from appearing next to off-the-shelf IAS-defined or custom advertiser-specific contextual categories.

You can add IAS pre-bid segments from two places within the platform: when building/editing an ad set and within the inventory management app.

Enabling Pre-bid Segments in an Ad Set

  1. To enable IAS pre-bid segments within an ad set, navigate to the ad set you would like to update or create a new ad set.

  2. In the Inventory section, expand the Advanced Settings section, then the Brand Safety section.

  1. Click on the Brand Safety, Fraud, and ContextualTargeting drop-down menu.  If you have already defined an IAS group, you can select your segment here.  If you want to build a new IAS group, select Create New Configuration.

  1. In the Create Prebid Configuration window, give your new configuration a name, select IAS from the Vendor drop-down menu, and select an option from the Format drop-down menu.

Note: Format selection is required so the appropriate IAS Fees are applied. Vendor and Format fields cannot be edited after your configuration has been saved.

Within the window, you can determine your brand's tolerance for each Fraud and Brand Safety content segment by selecting the corresponding Moderate Risk and High-risk or High-Risk options. By selecting an option, you will be choosing to exclude content that matches this criteria from the bid process.

  • Selecting the High-Risk option for a segment prevents the platform from bidding on pages that include content with a high probability of being offensive to leading Brands/Advertisers.

  • Selecting the Moderate Risk and High-Risk option prevents the platform from bidding on pages that include moderate content that might be acceptable for some brands and content with a high probability of being offensive to leading Brands/Advertisers. This option is more restrictive.

  1. At the bottom of the window, you have the option to enter IDs for contextual segments. The IDs that you enter correspond to curated content categories that go beyond the standard brand safety offering. (List of Segment IDs Here) When enabled, Quantcast will avoid serving impressions on webpages that have been classified as this content category by IAS. If you need assistance with custom contextual segments, please reach out to your IAS representative or email [email protected]

In the example below, we have entered the segment ID for Home Insurance. This will prevent your ad from appearing next to content that IAS has determined to be negative news or sentiment related to Home Insurance.

Notes: Page content that has not be rated by IAS is always avoided. This decreases the risk of serving ads on a brand with unsuitable context.

  1. Once you have defined your IAS settings, click Save. The new IAS group will be available for future use on all ad sets.

  2. On applying the pre-bid configuration to your Ad Set, the forecasting widget and shopping cart fees are updated to reflect your new forecasted reach and CPM estimates, and the IAS fees.

  1. The IAS settings will be applied to once you publish your ad set and you begin delivering media.
