Article summary

DoubleVerify

Avoid fraudulent and unsafe brand advertising opportunities by leveraging DoublyVerify's (DV's) anti-fraud and brand safety segments.

Fraud and Brand Safety

For more granular control, you can combine brand safety content avoidance segments with inclusion and exclusion lists for sites, apps, and keywords to create bespoke Authentic Brand Safety (ABS) segments that are closely aligned with your brand safety requirements. You can work directly on the DoubleVerify Pinnacle Admin to create bespoke ABS segments or reach out to your DV representative for assistance.

When enabled, these segments allow you to define your risk tolerance for various brand safety and fraud categories. Additionally, you can prevent your ads from appearing next to off-the-shelf DV-defined or custom advertiser-specific contextual categories.

Contextual Targeting

DV's pre-bid Standard Contextual capabilities make sure your campaign tactics only access ad opportunities that are contextually relevant to your campaign's audience and objectives. You can select to include or exclude content falling under any of the 400+ pre-defined IAB contextual categories.

For additional granularity, you can build your own Custom Contextual segments leveraging IAB, seasonal, in-market, and dynamic (custom-built) contextual categories.

You can add DV pre-bid segments from two places within the platform:

  1. When building/editing an ad set

  2. Within the inventory management app

Enabling DV comes as an add-on cost that will show up in the shopping cart breakout at the ad set level. If you have questions about pricing, billing, or want more information about DV, email [email protected]

Enabling Pre-bid Segments in an Ad Set

  1. To enable DV pre-bid segments within an ad set, navigate to the ad set you would like to update or create a new ad set.

  2. In the Inventory section, expand the Advanced Settings section and the Brand Safety section.

  1. Click on the Brand Safety, Fraud, and Contextual Targeting drop-down menu.  If you have already defined a DV group, you can select your segment here.  If you want to build a new DV group, select Create New Configuration.

  2. In the configuration window, give your segment a name, and select DoubleVerify as the vendor. Under segments, click on the Fraud section to expand.

Within the window, you can determine your brand's tolerance for each Fraud segment by selecting the corresponding exclusion options. By selecting an option, you will be choosing to exclude content that matches this criteria from the bid process.

  1. Click the Brand Safety section to determine your brand's tolerance for each Brand Safety segment by selecting the corresponding exclusion options. By selecting an option, you will be choosing to exclude content that matches this criteria from the bid process.

For example:

  • When selecting the High Risk option for a segment, it prevents the platform from bidding on pages that include content with a high probability of being offensive to leading Brands/Advertisers.

  • When selecting the High, Medium, and Low Risk options, it is more restrictive. It prevents the platform from bidding on pages that contain content with a high probability of being offensive, and other content that is considered to have a medium and low probability of being offensive to leading Brands/Advertisers.

  1. In the Authentic Brand Safety section you can enter IDs for custom contextual segments. To create and obtain a custom segment ID, please contact your DV representative or email [email protected]

Authentic Brand Safety cannot be used when standard Brand Safety and Fraud segments are selected and will show a warning message. In the below example, we have entered a custom segment ID after we have selected standard Brand Safety and Fraud segments.

  2. Below the Authentic Brand Safety sections, you can access the Standard Contextual settings. You select contextual categories to include or exclude in the corresponding sections.

You can select multiple segments to include or exclude. When multiple segments are selected the platform will include/exclude opportunities that fall on ANY of the selected segments. In the example below, ad opportunities on "News" or "Business" content will be excluded, while ad opportunities on "Hobbies And Interests" or "Sports" will be included.

  3. In the final section of the Configuration window, you can apply your custom contextual segments

leveraging IAB, seasonal, in-market, and dynamic (custom-built) contextual categories. To create and obtain a custom segment ID, please contact your DV representative or email [email protected].

  4. Once you have defined your DV settings and named the DV Group, select Save. The new or updated DV group will be available to add to all existing or new ad sets.

  5. The DV settings will be applied once you publish your ad set and the platform begins delivering media.
