Creating Custom Profiles

Article summary

Custom Profiles allow you to view the Audience Profile of users who have visited multiple properties, including both Online (Sites and Content Segments) and Offline sources (Custom Audiences).

Use Case: While I have multiple properties separated out with the Quantcast tag, I want to be able to look at an Audience Profile for users who have been to multiple properties. I’d want to see the demographics and interests of people who have been to example-website.com OR second-example.com.

For example, as a publisher, I want to combine users who have been to example-website.com or second-example.com to view one combined Measure Profile instead of looking at the profiles separately and inferring what the combined audience looks like.

Alternatively, you can use this report to combine online and offline audiences by combining Sites/Content Segments with Custom Audiences to get the full cross-channel view of an audience.

How to Run the Report

  • Go to create a new Audience Planner report

  • Select Part(s) of [Your Network].

  • Search for the Sites, Content Segments, or Custom Audiences you want

    • Use any combination of AND/OR/NOT logic to create the exact audience you are looking for (for this article, we will use example-website.com AND/OR second-example.com)

  • Name the audience and click Run Report.

How to Read the Report

Overview (OR Example)

  • Uniques: 5,818,081 uniques have been to either example-website.com OR second-example.com in the last 30 days.

  • Page Views: Currently not available. When combining more than one Site/Content Segment/Custom Audience together, we do not have a page view metric - as those only apply to pixel fires on individual Sites or Content Segments.

  • Composition: 100% of users who went to either example-website.com or second-example.com over the last 30 days. Because you did not select any filters/audience characteristics, the numbers in the overview are based on 100% on the people who have been to either example-website.com OR second-example.com.

  • Index: It is not available. Because the index is meant to compare against the US Internet, it is not relevant when looking at a property with no filters/audience characteristics.

 Audience Overlap (OR Example)

  • Uniques: 295,567 uniques on third-example.com have been to either example-website.com OR second-example.com in the last 30 days.

  • Page Views: 474,739 page views on third-example.com were generated by users who visited either example-website.com or second-example.com in the last 30 days.

  • Composition: 6.60% of the third-example.com audience has visited either example-website.com or second-example.com in the last 30 days.

  • Index. It is not available. Because the index is meant to compare against the US Internet, it is irrelevant when examining the overlap of properties within your network.

Overview (AND Example)

  • Composition. 100% of users who went to both example-website.com and second-example.com over the last 30 days. Because you did not select any filters/audience characteristics, the numbers in the overview are based on 100% on the people who have been to both example-website.com AND second-example.com.

  • Index. It is not available. Because the index is meant to compare against the US Internet, it is not relevant when looking at a property with no filters/audience characteristics.

Audience Planner Profile Reports

In this case, the profile tabs are based on the combination of Sites AND/OR/NOT Content Segments you selected.  So for example, if you selected example-website.com OR second-example.com, these tabs will give you the Measure profile data for any users who have gone to EITHER example-website.com or second-example.com over the last 30 days.
